Objectives

The overall aim of the project is to improve the decision-making capacity of municipalities and developers to guide circular solutions in regenerative urban renewal and development projects at the neighbourhood level with the participation of key stakeholders. Specific objectives (OB) are addressed:
OB1. To develop a common understanding of circularity principles and solutions in regenerative urban renewal and development projects, scaling up the concept of circularity to the neighbourhood level.
OB2. To identify existing environmental and socio-economic resources and related indicators at the neighbourhood level to be optimized and/or recirculated in urban renewal and development projects.
OB3. To measure the environmental and socio-economic benefits due to circular solutions implemented in urban renewal and development of neighbourhoods compared to business-as-usual solutions.
OB4. To support the participation of key stakeholders relevant to the co-creation of circular solutions for urban renewal and development projects, integrating participatory models in the decision-making.
The overall target is to develop a decision-making instrument that includes three project targets: (PT1) an inventory of future-proof circular solutions for neighbourhoods aligned with the EU’s carbon neutrality goal by 2050 (OB1); (PT2) an integrated approach to analyse the availability of urban resources and assess the circularity of urban renewals in the project stage (OB2-3); (PT3) a participatory and end-user-based framework involving ULLs to facilitate and replicate co-creation of urban renewal projects with multiple stakeholders (OB4), and employing novel, validated surveys on circularity to examine the current status quo in behaviours and expectations.
